Welcome to the Year 4 home learning page!
Welcome to your home learning page Year 4! On this page, you will find everything you need to learn at home. We understand this is an unusual time, but we hope that these activities will be an exciting way to continue your fantastic learning! We will be posting updates and a message to you all each Monday. We will make sure that each activity is fun, interesting and something that you can do at home. The most important thing is that you give it a go; we will be so proud of all your efforts and independent learning! Team Year 4 are awesome!
At the beginning of the week we will upload new tasks for each day. These will be:
- One daily English activity
- One daily Maths activity
- One daily Reading activity
- One daily Challenge activity! This could be something creative or that involves movement
Complete each activity on that day. In addition to this, it is important that you keep up your daily reading (visit the Oxford Owl website for good quality reads).
- Each activity should take around 30 minutes.
- Complete the activities in your home learning books.
- We will be revising different areas of maths so you can use your previous learning to help you.
- Take your time with the activities and complete them to the best of your ability.
- If you need extra activities, look at your website list and complete online activities.
We hope you enjoy the activities and we cannot wait to see what you produce.

Good morning Year 4 and welcome to Term 6!
We hope you had a lovely half term and have managed to enjoy the wonderful weather we have had! This week, we have some exciting lessons for you to enjoy. We understand it can sometimes be difficult to keep up the motivation, but you are doing great and we are all extremely proud of the effort you have put in so far. Keep it up! We have enjoyed receiving emails from some of you; please do continue to email us if you need any help or you’d like to share a picture or document of something you’re particularly proud of. You can send it to email@example.com . Make sure you put your teacher’s name or class name in the subject box.
Please note that Ms McCarthy will not be calling pupils this week as she worked over half term and made calls last week.
In Maths this week, you will have a week of 'Flashback Four' lessons, where you will recap some of the concepts you have practised already, including decimals, fractions and money. We will continue to use resources from the excellent White Rose scheme of work and have provided the answers on the document following the worksheet. We have also included their video tutorial for each day, helping you to complete the tasks. If you manage to complete the tasks in Maths, don’t forget to login into Mangahigh or Timestables Rockstars. You can also explore activities on the Numbots website. To gain access to the site, you can login with the same username and password you use for Timestable Rockstars.
In English, we will be using the brilliant Talk for Writing scheme for home learning. There is a booklet that you will use for the next two weeks and each day, you will be directed to complete a number of activities in the booklet. If you like, you can download and print the booklet to write in but you can also complete the activities in your home learning books if you prefer. This week, the booklet is called 'Mission Possible' and requires you to use your spy skills! In Reading, you will be finding out about a fascinating space mission whilst practising a variety of reading skills: vocabulary clarification, inference and skimming and scanning.
Please also look on your daily overview for some extra fun activities to do. This week, the activities include active exercises, science experiments and art activities.
If you are running out of reading books and need some inspiration for good quality literature, you can still access books at Get Epic (ask a parent or carer to email the Whitehall school email account requesting access). Oxford Owl https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/ and First News https://www.firstnews.co.uk/ also offer a free online library and children’s newspapers (ask a parent or carer to sign up for free).
Have a fantastic week, keep active and keep smiling!

NEW! SUMMER READING CHALLENGE!
We wanted to let you know all about the all-new digital library Summer Reading Challenge which is launching earlier than usual to keep children reading over the summer and support parents and carers - from June to September 2020.
The Reading Agency and Libraries Challenge will return for 2020 with ‘Silly Squad’ - a digital celebration of funny books and laughter, with artwork from award-winning children's author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson.
Use the link below to access it:
This website will be free to access, featuring games, quizzes and digital and downloadable activities to incentivise and encourage children and their families to take part in the Challenge at home.
Some of the events happening:
- On Friday 5th June there will be virtual (super silly!) events with guest celebrities and authors to mark the launch of the new digital Challenge.
- On Tuesday 9th June at 11.30am there will be a live Q and A with two local children’s authors hosted by Bristol libraries. Fire Boy by J. M. Joseph and The Worst Class in the World by Joanna Nadin are great choices for older readers (8-11 years), and are both on the reading list for the summer challenge. This will be live streamed to their Facebook page, so there’s no need to sign up – just go to the Bristol Libraries Facebook page to watch live and send questions! https://www.facebook.com/BristolLibraries/
