Homework

At the start of each term, the children will take home a list of all the spellings that will be looked at over the coming term. They will no longer be tested on these spellings but we will be learning the associated spelling rules in class and completing spelling activities in lessons.

The children are also expected to play Times Table Rockstars every week as part of their Maths homework. Their log-ins have been sent home. If your child is unable to access the TT Rockstars site, please let your class teacher know and they will be able to provide alternative Times Tables practice sheets.

Reading

In Year 5, we love reading and have got some glorious topic books! All children read regularly in school: they read weekly in guided reading, once every 3 weeks one-to-one with an adult and are given opportunities to read independently, daily. We also share a class story at the end of every day linked to our topic.  We give children opportunities to change books regularly. We encourage children to discover books they enjoy so if your child is a free reader, and is enjoying a particular novel at home, they are welcome to bring it to school to read during the day.
