2022-23 Reception Learning
Term 5
This term we are learning about 'Plants and Minibeasts'. We will be planting some different seeds and watching them grow. We will also go on some minibeast hunts and think about where they live. In Maths we will be counting to 30 and looking at those numbers. We will look at the days of the week and sequence events in the day.

Term 4
This term we have learnt all about 'Space'. We had a imaginary trip to space and wrote a diary about what we saw and did. We have also really enjoyed designing and making our own rockets. We have thought carefully about the wings and what boosters and fire we wanted! The children had some great play outside using the moon buggies to make up their own space stories and enjoyed playing with our pretend aliens. We have made some alien slime and sent some rockets flying, thinking about the instructions we needed to do. We have carried on learning our number facts, and practised using the words to describe position. We then learnt some directional words and pretended we were robots and gave each other instructions for how to move. We made our own 'role play Space station' where the children have dressed up as astronauts and pretended to count down and fly off into space!

Term 3
This term we have learnt all about 'Animals'. We started the term with our 'Animaltastic day'. We dressed up as an animal and had great fun being them all day. We have learnt some animal poems and performed them using some great expression. We looked at the book 'Welcome to the Zoo' and made up our own stories about what could happen to the animals and different characters. We have learnt some facts about animals and written our own fact files. In Maths we have looked at 1 more and 1 less than a number and used objects to help us. We have thought about the composition of 5 and solved some problems with these facts. We looked at ordinal numbers and the children enjoyed having races and talking about who was 1st, 2nd and 3rd. We have explored length and ordered some animals from longest to shortest. The children have really enjoyed our deconstructed role play this term. They have had a selection of boxes, blocks, tubes, chairs, and loose parts to be creative with. We have had pirate shops, train rides, animal dens to name a few. We have had some frosty weather and really enjoyed exploring the frost and making hand prints. We are looking forward to the spring and we have been working hard to tidy our garden ready for bulbs and flowers to be planted.
Term 2
As part of our transport topic the children have very much enjoyed the different activities and visitors we have had over this term. We started the topic with a ‘wheelie great day’. The children all brought in their bikes or scooters to the school playground and completed an obstacle course. They practised breaking and steering along a route. We were lucky to have a visit from the PCSO and a police van. We found out all about emergency vehicles and even compared them to our teachers cars! As part of the national Road safety week we had a walk of our local area and practised crossing several roads and the cycle path. We made maps of our route. We have loved exploring the changes of the season in our garden and are really enjoying the frosty weather. To finish off our term our children have all been star performers in our ‘warm and fuzzy’ Nativity. We wish you and your families all a wonderful Christmas break.
Term 1
What a super start to the school year your children have had. We are really proud how they have settled in and enjoyed all of the learning we have been doing. This term we have learnt 'All about me!'. The children have looked at their own families and people who are important to them. We have really enjoyed learning about how our bodies work and what we need to keep healthy. We have looked at a skeleton and the bones that we have! We have started to learn our sounds and really enjoy writing them and reading simple words. In Maths, we have looked at numbers 1 to 5 and really explored counting out amounts, seeing amounts of number and different ways of making numbers to 5. We have had great fun exploring the reception environment and using lots of different resources. What a busy term we have had!
