Term 3
In term 3 we will be learning all about ‘Animals’. We will learn some facts about some animals and make our own fact files. We will think about what they look like and also where they live and what they like to eat! We will change our role play into a safari area so we can act out going on safari and dress up as some animals. We also have some animal puppets that we can use to act out and make up our own stories.
In maths we will continue to practise numbers 1 to 5 and recall the number facts within these. We will look at measure, comparing length and also measuring with cubes.
We will continue to learn the di graph phonemes and practise writing them in words and sentences.
Outside we will use our building blocks and loose parts to make some animal houses and dens!

Term 2
We had a very busy term of learning especially through our topic of Transport!
We have looked at the teacher’s cars and really enjoyed our ‘Wheelie great day’. We had a race on our scooters and bikes and enjoyed riding around the obstacle course on our playground. We even had a visit from PSCO Nick who brought his police van. We had great fun afterwards acting out and pretending to be the police! We did a road safety walk around the area and looked at how to be safe on the road. We then practised this in our own playground with a zebra crossing and the bikes!
We have also enjoyed acting out in our role play garage, serving petrol and washing and mending the bikes. We have learnt the story Naughty bus and made our buses and acted out with them. The naughty buses got up to some naughty things, driving through the sand and making a mess with the shaving foam!
We have made some great vehicles with the loose parts and big blocks and really enjoyed acting out driving and using our imagination to go places.
In Maths, we have done lots of work of making numbers to 5 and showing this on our fingers. We have also looked at 1 more and made some great stair case patterns to show this. We have looked at 2D shape and made some great pictures, talking about and describing the shapes we had used.
We have finished the term with an amazing nativity, where the children acted and sang beautifully.

Term 1
Welcome to Whitehall Primary School and the Reception page.
What a busy 1st term the reception children have had!
They settled in really quickly and have enjoyed exploring their new environment.
The children have played together so nicely and made the most amazing dens, train tracks and animal houses.
We have been looking at families and they have loved talking about their own families and drew some great pictures. We have been learning about keeping our bodies healthy! We have done lots of exercise, looked at the skeleton and practised brushing some enormous teeth!
In maths we have explored numbers to 5 and looked at size and patterns. We have explored making our own patterns using a range of things.
The children have loved the outside area, being really physical on the obstacle course, enjoying the den building and getting muddy in the mud kitchen making some great mud pies!
As part of ‘Black History Month’ we have thought about the theme this year of ‘Pride and power’. We have talked about what makes us unique and what we are proud of. We have made a picture of ourselves and drawn our favourite things and used our favourite colours. We have also made a crown that we wore in our own ‘pride parade!’
The children are really settled in school and excited by all of the learning we are doing!
