Term 6

Our topic will be 'Our Living World' this term and we are all really looking forward to all the wonderful learning to come. We will have lots of fun exploring habitats for bugs and insects, learning about the life cycle of a butterfly and even having our own caterpillars to watch make their changes in our classrooms! This term is full of lots of outdoor learning which we are really excited about, we cannot wait to explore the Wilderness more. We will also have the excitement of Sports Day and Health & Wellbeing week.

Check back at the end of the term to find out more and see photos of what we've been up to!

Have a look at these websites with your child for some extra learning about our topic:

Fun ideas to do at home:

Go for a bug hunt in your local area, use the websites above to help identify them. Think about why that minibeast might have chosen to live in that habitat.

Design an invented minibeast. What does it look like? How does it move around? What does it eat? Think of an amazing name for it.

End of Term 5

To help enrich our English topic we were really lucky to have a visit from the North Somerset Birds of Prey centre who bought along four owls for us to marvel at! We really enjoyed learning many facts about what they eat, when they hunt and learning all of the features. Owls are not the only creatures we have enjoyed but we have also enjoyed welcoming the goats (Russett and Dabinett) to Whitehall. We hope they have a wonderful half term break in Cornwall!

Term 5

In this term’s learning, the children will build on their previous learning on bird habitats. Children will  explore fun facts about owls and foxes and create their information leaflet. They will compare this through their geography study of nocturnal animals living in Kenya. While in English, they will start the term reading "Fantastic Mr. Fox" by Roald Dahl along with acting out the classic poem "The Owl and the Pussycat". To excite the children  further and to learn more interesting facts, we will be having a nocturnal animal workshop. Watch this space for photos!

Update from the end of Term 3

We have had great fun in our learning this term! We have been inspired by the achievements of Neil Armstrong, Mae Jemison and Katherine Johnson and their perseverance to achieve their dreams in space exploration. The space dome brought to us by Space Odyssey was mesmerising and we learnt so many space facts including finding out about NASA’s latest mission to the moon.

In Art, we made sculptures of imaginary galaxies and in Design Technology, we designed and made moon buggies inspired by Bob from Man on the Moon by Simon Bartram. We used recycled materials to create moon buggies that could withstand a rocky ride and also had comfy seats for visitors to the moon. Testing them out was great fun with most of them surviving rigorous testing in the playground.

Term 3 - Space

This term our topic is A Journey into Space! The children will do a deep dive into the history of space flight looking at the space race and key contributors such as Neil Armstrong and Katherine Johnson with an exciting visit from Space Odyssey to really immerse children in the topic. In English, the children will be inventing their own space stories after reading the wonderful story of Beegu and writing exciting non-fiction persuading readers to visit the moon! In maths, we will continue to cover multiplication and lead onto division.

Check back at the end of the term to find out more and see photos of what we've been up to!

Term 2 - Superheroes

Year 2 have really enjoyed learning about Superheroes. We started the term learning about Super Mr. Burton and wrote what his next adventure would be. Super Mr. Burton was very busy saving Mr. Denton from goblins and saving Mrs. Tucker from a hurricane. We loved Superhero day and sewing our own badges. The children of Year 2 also loved learning about the Great Fire of London. They had the chance to look at artefacts and sequence what happened. They also made wonderful Tudor houses out of cereal boxes.
