Religious Education

Statement of Intent

At Whitehall Primary School, the aim of Religious Education is to help children to acquire and develop knowledge and understanding of the principal religious and non-religious views represented in Great Britain. We aim to help children understand the way that religious beliefs shape our lives and our behaviour, develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues and enhance our spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Pupils will learn to express their insights and to agree or disagree respectfully.

As children progress through our school, their religious education will ensure they understand that they are special and loved, while nurturing their curiosity to seek answers about important questions in life. More specifically, children will learn about religion and from religion, while developing the ability to:

-describe and explain beliefs and theological concepts

-describe and explain teachings within and across religious and non-religious traditions

-describe and explain ways in which beliefs are expressed

-know and understand the significance and impact of beliefs and practices on individuals, communities and societies
